Description

Bergafjärden consists of a large coastal meadow in the middle and higher hill/mountainous areas to the north and south. Most of the coastal meadow has been turned into a large beach for tourists but there are parts untouched in the northern part of the bay. Over the years 207 species have been recorded. During winter ice-free periods are often birdrich although the shallow waters often makes it frozen during winters. Labud grbac, Veliki labud, Mali ronac, Gluvara, Veliki ronac, Patka dupljašica, Srebrnasti galeb, Sivi galeb and Ćubasta patka are the common seafowl during this period. Among other birds Divlja guska, Siva čaplja, Veliki svračak, and Belorepan are uncommon. Wintering woodpeckers like Siva žuna, Zelena žuna, and Troprsti detlić can be found most years. Some years Crni turpan, Srednji ronac, Ledenjarka, Baršunasti turpan, Riđoglava patka and Siva čaplja also winter. In the forest most of common forest birds can be found. During invasions Borova crvenka and Belokrili krstokljun can be found.

During spring most of the previously mentioned waterfowl become more common and in March many geese arrive. Larger amounts of Divlja guska (100 at most), and Kanadska guska (100 at most) can be found. Often along it smaller amounts of Belolika guska and sometimes Guska ljigarica, Lisasta guska, and even Mala lisasta guska (only very rarley). Among water fowl, Veliki labud (at most 300), Patka dupljašica (at most 300), and Krdža (at most 90) along with smaller amounts of Baršunasti turpan, Gavka, Srednji ronac, Veliki ronac, Mali ronac, Gluvara, Plovka kašikara and Zviždara. Uncommon ducks in the area are Čegrtuša, Šiljkan, and Grogotovac.

During spring many waders can be found. Most common among these are Crvenonogi sprudnik, Sprudnik migavac, Krivokljuni sprudnik, Žalar slepić, Šumska šljuka, Polojka, Ostrigar, Sprudnik pijukavac, Velika carska šljuka, Žalar blatarić and Sprudnik ubojica. More rarely Laponska muljača, Mala carska šljuka, Zlatni vivak Crni sprudnik, Crnotrba sprutka and Seda sprutka can be found. During perfect weather even Velika sprutka, Bela sprutka, Velika sprutka, Mala sprutka, Pljosnokljuna sprutka or Riđa sprutka can be found although these are more common during autumn (while still being very rare).

During this period common terns (Arktička čigra, Obična čigra, Velika čigra), common gulls (Srebrnasti galeb, Crni galeb, Mrki galeb, Sivi galeb and Obični galeb) and sometimes the rare Mali galeb is found. At bergafjärden notable breeding birds are Ćubasti gnjurac (some years, rare), Gavka, Baršunasti turpan, Belolika guska, Vetruška, Ušati gnjurac, Velika čigra, Arktička čigra and Obična čigra. During early autumn large amounts of waterfowl, geese and waders can be found although these are often more numerous than in spring and arctic waders like Pljosnokljuna sprutka are more common during autumn than spring. Most waders are found during august.
