Description
Asunden is an island that is about two km long in a north-south direction and at its widest about one km. Asunden is grazed by sheep. The island has a rich flora and a very rich bird life on the beach meadows in the northwestern part of the island. The coastal meadows are part of the European ecological network Natura 2000. When low water levels during migration there may be plenty of waders on the west side of the road bank. You can see waders like Sabljarka, Ostrigar, Srebrni vivak, Vivak, Žalar blatarić, Sprudnik ubojica, Laponska muljača, Crvenonogi sprudnik, Sprudnik migavac, Krivokljuni sprudnik, Crnotrba sprutka, Riđa sprutka and Velika carska šljuka forage and rest. Ducks and divers overwinter in the bay.

Access
Asunden is an island off Slite in northeastern Gotland, slightly northeast of Enholmen and Grunnet. The island is connected to Gotland with a road. You can park when you arrive on the island. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking. Walking around the island is a nice walk of about 6 km. You get to see the special rock formations, cliffs and coastal meadows.
