Description
Despite its small size La Marjal dels Moros is home to some large bird populations of several species, including seriously endangered species. One of the highlights in springtime are the flocks of different types of wading birds that come here to breed, including colonies of Obična čigra, Mala čigra, Zijavac, Belobrka čigra and Vlastelica. There is also a large breeding population of Prevez, which is increasingly rare in Valencia. The Mramorka is another endangered species that breeds here, and the Marjal marks its northernmost location in Europe. In wintertime you can see large flocks of Mala bela čaplja and Plovka kašikara, as well as spectacular gatherings of Veliki vranac, and it is not uncommon to see Plamenac, Velika bela čaplja or Ražanj. Other nice birds you can see include Eja močvarica, Mali gnjurac, Barska kokica, Sultanka and Vodomar.
