Els Muntanyans is a natural site with several small ponds, saltmarshes with glassworts and small dunes.
Els Muntanyans of Torredembarra and Creixell is a natural wetland situated between the sea and the railway. This natural site holds several small ponds, saltmarshes with glasswort and small dunes where interesting reptiles can be found like spiny-footed lizard (Acanthodactylus erythrurus). In the wetlands several bird species can be seen during all the year like Gluvara, Mali gnjurac, Barska kokica, Morski galeb, and other birds like Sredozemna crnoglava grmuša, Crnoglava travarka or Šivačica.
The site is remarkable because the Morski žalar breeds in this wetland and Sultanka has also bred. But is during migrations when the site is more interesting as several shorebird species can be found, like Žalar blatarić, Bela sprutka or Crvenonogi sprudnik , and several small passerines occur in the reeds, the marshy areas and the dunes; is the case of Obična beloguza, Obična travarka, Trstenjak crvrkutić, Crnoglava grmuša and several swallows. Sredozemni galeb is present most of the year except in winter months.
The area can be accessed from Torredembarra or from Creixell. There are parking sites close to the natural site. Click on a P in the map to get directions. Note: in summer it can be complicated to park, so go early. The Torredembarra train station is less than 1 kilometre from the Muntanyans, so it can easily be accessed by public transport.
In summer time it is recommendable to visit the site before 10 AM, or at sunset, as during the day it is very hot and plenty of people.
