"El Campo de Montiel" is my territory and where I spend the most time birding. Its diversity of habitats make it a great place for many different birds.

Description

El Campo de Montiel has excellent patches of Mediterranean scrubland and scrub (holm oak and substitution scrub, pastures, pseudo-steppe formations with cereal crops, olive groves and vineyards and plant formations associated with wetlands, rivers and reservoirs (avenues, ash groves, reed beds) makes it possible that the region has an exceptional wealth of fauna, among which are some of the most threatened species of peninsular and European fauna, which in some cases have important reproductive populations.

Espagnol: “El Campo de Montiel” es mi territorio y en el que paso mas tiempo pajareando,su diversidad de habitat hacen de el un sitio privilegiado y nada frecuentado. Excelentes manchas de monte y matorral mediterráneo (encinares y matorrales de sustitución, dehesas, formaciones seudo esteparias con cultivos de cereal, olivar y viñedo y formaciones vegetales asociadas a humedales, ríos y embalses (alamedas, fresnedas, carrizales,..) hace posible que la comarca posea una excepcional riqueza faunística entre la que se encuentran algunas de las especies más amenazadas de la fauna peninsular y europea, que cuentan en algunos casos con importantes poblaciones reproductoras.

200 KM from Madrid towards Andalusia by the N-IV, arrive in Manzanares, where you take direction La Solana, and continue to Villanueva de los Infantes, which is the town where you can start your route. You can explore by car, bicycle or on foot.

There are hides for bird photography from a private company www.hidescampodemontiel.com (see link below), which also has ornithological guides. In Villanueva de los Infantes the famous British ornithologist Tom Gullick lives all year round, who for many years was the ornithologist with the high ranking of having seen more than 9200 bird species in the world.
