Heuksando (흑산도) is one of the popular islands for birders to explore during spring migration season. More than 240 bird species have been recorded on the island, and you might have a good chance to see rare or vagrant species as well.

Access

Heuksando island is accessible by boat from Mokpo Harbor. The boat runs only a few times a day and it can be cancelled if the weather is bad. It takes 2~3 hours to reach the island from Mokpo Harbor. The main birding points on the island are Jin-ri (진리) (1) and Ye-ri (예리) (2). It is best to move if you have a car or take a taxi, but you can still see a lot of birds even if you only explore the walkable area.
