Description

The volcanic plateau is dominated by the Calimani caldera and the abundance of Swiss stone pine and juniper trees. The Călimani National Park (Romanian: Parcul Naţional Călimani) is a protected area situated at Northern side of Eastern Carpathians. Due to the physico-geographical, floristic and landscape peculiarities, ornitofauna is diverse.

In the alpine emptiness, due to the abundant fruiting of cranberry and merisor, species are attracted from the spruce forest. Birds you can see here include planinska trepteljka, Planinski popić, Crna crvenrepka, Gavran, Vetruška and Obična beloguza. In the more forested areas you can encounter birds like Kos ogrličar and Šumska trepteljka. In flight, raptors can be observed: for example Poljska eja, Sivi soko, Jastreb, Orao kliktaš. And of course the Veliki tetreb should be mentioned.
