A small track adjacent to the Reeuwijkse Plassen to the west and a typical Dutch polderlandscape to the east. A good spot for song- and waterbirds.
The Kippenkade, literally translated "Chicken Quay", is a small and narrow track through a typical Dutch polder landscape and adjacent to the 's Gravenkoop lake, which is part of the larger Reeuwijkse Plassen area. The track is used by local residents to get to their holiday residences, although this isn't frequent. The track is surrounded by trees, small reedbeds and waterways.
The reedbeds provide a great oppurtinity to find Svilorepi cvrčić, Modrovoljka and Trstenjak rogožar, besides more common species like Barska strnadica and Trstenjak crvrkutić. The scattered trees and bushes are great for Žuti voljić, Grmuša čavrljanka and Obična grmuša. The gardens of the present residences are good for small flocks of Poljski vrabac.
The surrounding polders are great for large flocks of geese in the winter months. Large numbers of Belolika guska are present here and sometimes rare species like Guska crvenovoljka and Rosova guska can be spotted within these flocks. During the breeding season, the polders are great for typical waders like Crvenonogi sprudnik, Muljača and Sprudnik ubojica. Large flocks of Žuta pliska can be present too. Foraging Crvena čaplja can be seen next to the ditches. The track itself is a good spot for grass snakes.
The 's Gravenkoop lake is a great spot for Crna čigra. They tend to hang around here just before flying to their breeding area in the polders. Large numbers can be seen foraging above the lake. Sometimes, species like Belokrila čigra and Mali galeb can be spotted too.
The area is easy accessable on foot. Parking is a bit tricky, so try to park your car as best as possible so it doesn't block any access roads. The area can also be very muddy.
