Description
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (Planinski detlić, Troprsti detlić, Crna žuna and Srednji detlić). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare Zelenkasti zviždak, Mala muharica and locally common Leštarka. Dugorepa sova has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — Mala sova — is also seen more often. Many Prdavac and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (Cvrčić potočar, Šumski trstenjak), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
