Located in the vicinity of a lovely roman settlement, now a fishermen village, it is a nature reserve where more than 300 bird species have been seen.
The Canal Novo Valley nature reserve is made up of a former valley, from where it takes its name, and some arable land. A lagoon visitor centre has been built inside the reserve. The area comprises lagoon, river mouth, salt marsh, swamps, canals and dunes.
Most birds here are aquatic species or are in some way linked to water. Marano lagoon’s bird life includes over 300 species: swans, geese, herons, birds of prey, rails, shorebirds, seagulls, Plamenac and many passerines inhabit and bring life and colour to this marshy ecosystem.
You can only access the area by foot, but there are parking available not too far away. Weelchair friendly. Ticket price to enter the reserve € 3,50.
