Tanali Forest covers 153 hectares. 20 hectares of the area are wet forest and reed thickets growing on the flood plains at the margins of an old lake bed.
Riserva Naturale Bosco di Tanali is situated on the west side of the Bientina Marsh. The area embraces a variety of important habitats: periodically flooded wet meadows, hay fields, Black Alder wet woods, reed thickets and small sheets of water. The periodic flooding of the various environments attracts many birds. Among the birds that can be seen are Mali gnjurac, Grogotovac, Mali slavuj, Šumska sova, Obična kukavica, Svilorepi cvrčić, Trstenjak mlakar, Trstenjak crvrkutić and Senica vuga. There is also a colony of Siva čaplja.

Reaching the area is easy: you get to the hamlet of Caccialupi from via Del Tiglio in the municipality of Bientina, park near the gas station and go down, crossing the old route of the Pontedera-Lucca railway. The area has free access and is not fenced and therefore always open. In the most open area of the reserve there is a bird hide (see the map).
