Description
Lago Matese is a beautiful alpine lake situated in the Matese Regional Park. The lake covers a surface area of 5 square kilometres and is 15 metres deep at its deepest point. It stands at an elevation of 1,011 metres above sea level. The lake attracts many ducks and is a rest and feeding area for many birds during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are Grogotovac, Krdža, Patka njorka, Mali gnjurac, Grlica, Obična kukavica, Ždral, Vlastelica, Krivokljuni sprudnik, Sprudnik migavac, Vodeni bik, Čapljica, Crvena čaplja, Žuta čaplja, Gak, Ražanj, Kašičar, Osičar, Zmijar, Suri orao, Eja močvarica, Riđa lunja, Crna lunja, Ćuk, Pupavac, Rusi svračak, Crvenokljuna galica and Gavran.

Access
Lago Matese is situated in the Matese Regional Park, within the Province of Caserta. The lake can be reached by car. There is a road that runs along the entire perimeter but best option is to park and explore the banks on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
