Description

Birding at Ljóskastarahúsið is usually rewarding in one way or another. During migration, thousands of seabirds, like Troprsti galeb, Tankokljuna njorka, Oštrokljuna njorka, Burnjak and Morski papagaj pass the westernmost point on the Seltjarnarnes peninsula. In summer, birds like Obična bluna and Burnjak can be seen feeding, and if you're lucky, a Obični zovoj or a Čađavi zovoj might pass. In the wintertime, the sea hosts Ledenjarka, Morski vranac and you might be able to find a Mala njorka.

Visit Ljóskastarahúsið when the wind is strong, preferably towards land and the Reykjavík bay. Not many Icelandic birders spend time seawatching, so chances are high that you'll be the one yelling "albatross!". Remember to check the ponds and shoreline on your way to and from.
