Description

The 77 km big Lake Balaton is located on the migration route for wetland birds, and the 562 hectares Tihany peninsula is a pinchpoint allowing the best viewing. The peninsula is a nature reserve with hills, marshy meadows and two lakes. The Inner Lake (Belső-tó) is almost in the centre of the peninsula but is heavily used by anglers and most of the time of little interest for birds. The Outer Lake (Külső-tó) is to the northwest is largely reed-covered and has breeding Čapljica, Crvena čaplja, Eja močvarica, Grogotovac and Patka njorka as well as warblers. Rarer birds in the area include Riđi mišar, Siva vetruška, Mali ronac, Mali slavuj, Sinji galeb, Mali vranac, Riđovrati gnjurac, Srednji detlić and Senica vuga.
