The Meladia river mouth provides you with unique landscapes, and is a great spot for migrants!
The river mouth of the Meladia river is a great spot for many species of migrant. There are several unique habitats in this area, like reedbeds, coastal shrubs, open agricultural fields, scattered trees and bushes and a river with lush green vegetation. Just after parking your car, you can scan the area for breeding species, like Crnoglava strnadica. Sometimes, Žbunjar breeds here too. This part of the area is also great for migrating shrikes and chats, like Sivi svračak and Obična travarka.
A bit further down the road, some agricultural fields on the right can be great for migrating pipits, wagtails and larks, like Stepska trepteljka, Mala ševa and Žuta pliska. Harriers, like Eja močvarica and Eja livadarka, can be seen hunting above these fields too.
Near the river, several small tracks lead you towards the sea. You can follow these tracks to scan the river area. This part of the river mouth can attract anything, like herons, storks and flocks of Pčelarica and swifts. Utva zlatokrila can be seen in the river too.
After a while, you come accross some fencing. You can enter the area, but always close the gates. After a while, you enter the coastal shrubs near the sea. There are many small brackish pools, but often these are empty of birds. Sometimes you can find waders down here. The coastal shrubs are great for migrants too, especially early in the morning.
You can scan the sea for flocks of Mali zovoj, and there might be some gulls and terns around.
You can park your car at the beginning of the road (see map) and walk all the way towards the sea.
