Due to the exposed location of the island of Sylt, many pelagic birds can be observed from the west beach of Westerland at any time of year, but especially during the autumn storms. To name just a few of the regular species: Veliki pomornik, Kratkorepi pomornik, Čađavi zovoj, Burnjak, Tankokljuna njorka, Obična bluna and Oštrokljuna njorka. In addition, many other, sometimes even rarer, species can be observed with a bit of luck.
