Description
The Limbacher Teiche are a wetland north-west of Chemnitz. The ponds and wet meadows are home many birds. More than 90 bird species have been recorded breeding in the area and many more on migration. The wet meadows and reeds serve as a resting place for Barska šljuka and Mala šljuka. Breeding birds include Barska strnadica, Veliki trstenjak and Modrovoljka. Sometimes also Eja močvarica. Around the Großen Teich (Great Pond) you can also observe many birds. The best view opens up from the main dam. In particular, the small island with its Obični galeb colony is a highlight in itself. Other breeding birds at the Great Pond are Ćubasta patka, Riđoglava patka, Obična grmuša and Trstenjak crvrkutić.
The nature trail ('Naturlehrpfad') leads through the wet meadows in the Lohteichtal where sometimes Prdavac is heard. Other birds in this area are Trstenjak mlakar and Rusi svračak. Rare birds like Barski petlić, Ritska sova and Šljuka livadarka have been observed in this area. The nature trail leads you on to the Großen und Kleinen Mühlteich (Large and Small Mill Pond) where you have a chance to spot birds like Vodomar, Mali gnjurac and Veliki trstenjak.

Access
The best place to start your tour through the Limbach ponds is in the parking lot at the city park of Limbach-Oberfrohna. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking place. The nature trail in the Limbach pond area is very well signposted. The route which is shown on the map is about 7 km long.
