Description
In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of Gluvara, Čegrtuša, Ćubasta patka, Riđoglava patka, Liska and Veliki vranac.
Smaller groups of Krdža and Ćubasti gnjurac can usually be seen scattered across the lake. Nilska guska and Labud grbac are often present, as well as Velika bela čaplja, Siva čaplja, Vodomar and Potočna pliska along the fringes of the lake.
With a bit of luck, you can also see Veliki ronac, Zviždara, Šiljkan, Grogotovac (on spring migration) or even a stunning Mali ronac here!
Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: Čižak, Batokljun, Zimovka, Obični popić, Vatroglavi kraljić, Mali drozd and Crna žuna.
