High mountain pass west of Parc National du Mercantour that is good for alpine birds and birds of prey.
Col d'Allos (elevation 2,250 m) is a high mountain pass in the Alps west of Parc National du Mercantour. The scenery is less spectacular than Col de la Cayolle (also described on this website), but still very impressive. When you make a walk from the parkingplace of Col d'Allos to the top, you cross rocky grasslands and have magnificent views. Along the way you can observe alpine fauna like chamois, marmots and of course many birds. Among the birds you can see are Alpska snežnica, Crvenokljuna galica, Žutokljuna galica, Gavran, Alpska žutarica, Planinski vrabac, Strnadica kamenjarka, Crna crvenrepka, Obična beloguza and Kos ogrličar as well as large birds of prey such as Beloglavi sup, Zmijar and Suri orao. If you are lucky you can see Bradan that is gradually reintroduced in the area.
