Description
Jerup Strand comprises a flat sandy beach with a single line of dunes, marshland and grazed meadows. It is situated on the shore of the Kattegat north of Frederikshavn. Several species of wader breed in the area, including Ostrigar, Žalar blatarić, Crvenonogi sprudnik and now and again Sabljarka.
Jerup is a stopover site for several duck species, including Zviždara and Krdža. During migrating season other birds arrive, including Srednji ronac, Šarena utva, Zlatni vivak, Srebrni vivak, Crnotrba sprutka, Vivak, Velika sprutka, Velika carska šljuka and Mala sprutka. Now and again, flocks of Grivasta guska and Belolika guska and a few Kratkokljuna guska stage on the meadows. Divlja guska can be seen throughout the year.
In winter there are flocks of Bela sprutka running along the sea’s edge, and one can be lucky enough to spot a Ritska sova over the meadows. Gaćasti mišar and Poljska eja can also be seen flying over the meadows, together with flocks of Planinska juričica and Snežna strnadica. Small flocks of Planinska ušata ševa and a few Strnadica ostrugašica appear now and then. Sivi soko is a regular visitor.

Access
Follow route 40 connecting Frederikshavn with Skagen. About 13km north of Frederikshavn one reaches the village of Jerup. Just north of the village, turn east along Fredborgvej (there is a sign to Jerup Strand). At the beach is a car park, from where one can get onto the beach. Most birds can usually be seen at the southern end of the area. Note: the area is privately owned but it is possible to park and walk along the beach. Click on the P in the map to get directions.
