Small retention pond with short dirt trail behind a busy shopping center that attracts a lot of rare for the area birds.
Harris Teeter Retention Pond is not a very attractive place. There is a short oval paved path around a small retention pond neighboring a school and a busy shopping center. A dirt path connects a nearby neighborhood to the shopping center. Surprisingly this spot has been attracting a lot of species, including some rare for the area birds. Ash-throated Flycatcher, White-crowned Sparrow, Clay-colored Sparrow and Painted Bunting are some of the rare species observed here.
The area is accessible by the shopping area parking lot. Click on the P on the map for directions to the parking. There is a short walkway between Harris Tetter and the retention pond in the back. It is best explored by foot.
