Headland at the north end of Seaton Sluice with seawatching point, by The Kings Arms pub; also some shrubs to attract coastal migrants.
A headland in Seaton Sluice jutting into the North Sea. Site of an old Coast Guard lookout, now converted into a seawatching hut by the Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club. Good for seabirds and waders, with viewing of flypast birds to seaward. Among the birds you can observe are gaga, crna raca, beloliska, zimska raca, strmoglavec, ledni viharnik, črni viharnik, atlantski viharnik, školjkarica, komatni deževnik, kamenjar, bodičasta govnačka, velika govnačka, kričava cigra, rožnata čigra, and many more. Occasional vodomec in winter in the burn mouth.
Park on Collywell Bay Road, accessed off Links Road (A193). Walk to Kings Arms and cross to 'Rocky Island' over footbridge. Access to the seawatching hut is by key only to members of the Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club, but if someone is already in, visiting guests are usually welcome, knock on the door.
Seawatching can be rewarding here. Waders on exposed rocks at low tide.
