Loe Pool is the largest area of natural fresh water in Cornwall, it is situated South of the town of Helston.
Loe Pool has attracted many rare Neartic species of Grebe and Ducks. It is separated from the sea by a beach and Loe Bar. During Autumn, especially following a hot summer there can be muddy margins that attract migrant waders. The Pool is fed by the River Cober that runs down the valley from Helston, at the top of this valley is parkland with lakes.
In Helston take the B3304 and park in car park which is opposite Helston Boating Lake and Park. From here you can walk the whole valley/Loe Pool/Beach(Loe Bar) and return. The circular walk that is shown on the map below is about 11 km.
From the Beach (Loe Bar) the sea can have Grebes and Divers and Seaducks but are usually in smaller numbers than elsewhere on the South coast.
