Premier seawatching site in the county.
The Fishtown of Usan is a small, historic fishing village. It features a 19th-century signal tower, which is a four-storey structure built with medieval references and topped by machicolations and crenellations. The village once had a thriving fishing industry, with rows of cottages, a school, and a coastguard station. Today, only a few cottages and the coastguard station remain.
The village offers great seawatching in the right conditions (south-easterly winds). Bushes and trees are also attractive to migrant passerines.
Fishtown of Usan is located south of Montrose. Follow signs from Montrose, limited parking at dead end road in the former fishing village. Press P on the map for directions. Not really suitable for wheelchair users but Seaton of Usan just to the north of the village offers seawatching from car.
