Extensive coastal dunes on the Tay estuary.
Barry Buddon is a huge M.O.D. (Ministry of Defence) training area with extensive coastal dunes, forest belts, birch scrub, heather, grassland and river outflow into the Tay estuary. Good for gulls, terns, waders, roosting geese in winter and migrant passerines. Often good numbers of mali galeb in late summer. But the area is year round of interest. Rarities like smrdokavra and uhati škrjanec have been observed here in the past.
The estuary side of Barry Buddon is located near the town of Monifieth. Park by the football pitches in Monifieth. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. Also accessible by train and bus. Note: On M.O.D. land, no access when red flags flying - live firing!
