Nature reserve Stadssjön is a green oasis in the urban parts of the Hovran area and very easy accessible for everyone to get to.
Stadsjön has wetland areas, forest, meadows, reed beds and river habitats. This variety attracts many birds. Along the hiking trail you can walk or roll straight through wetlands, experience rainforest-like deciduous forest, and look out over the open wet meadows where cows graze. From the newly built lookout tower you look out over the beautiful landscape. If you are lucky, the belorepec can come gliding over, or you can hear bičja trstnica singing. During spring and autumn, the reserve is visited by large numbers of resting birds. Among the birds you can encounter are žličarica, čopasta črnica, močvirska sinica, vrtna penica, planinski orel, rjavi lunj, pepelasti lunj, krokar, rumena pastirica, rumeni strnad, mala gos, koconoga kanja, žvižgavka, kreheljc, zvonec, veliki žagar, kukavica, Mokož, žerjav, veliki škurh, spremenljivi prodnik, sloka, kozica, čoketa, rdečenogi martinec, močvirski martinec, zelenonogi martinec, polarni slapnik, navadna čigra, ribji orel, Sršenar, rjavi škarnik, mali detel, lesna sova, vijeglavka, črna žolna, škrjančar, sokol selec, veliki srakoper, kobiličar, povodni kos, veliki slavec and modra taščica.
Via the hiking trail and the approximately 300 m long footbridge, you can get around the Stadssjön nature reserve (see the map). Whether you walk or roll in a wheelchair, you can explore the area. If you also want to take the opportunity to visit the adjacent reserve Lilla älvgången, you only need to cross the new bridge. The trail around Stadssjön is 3.3 km long starting from the car park.
