Description
Depending on time of day the north or the south side is best to park at and walk from. The area is a shallow bay with a narrow beach and inside that meadows. Best is to visit the area when the tide is not to high (see a link to the tides table below) and preferably a bit of bad weather so the birds stop to rest. Along the beach there are some old bunkers that give shelter from the wind or a higher position.
During migration, especially mid July to mid September, a good variety of waders can be seen here such as spremenljivi prodnik, srpokljuni prodnik, veliki prodnik, mali prodnik, progastorepi kljunač, togotnik, ploskokljunec and sabljarka. But also most of the Tringa waders and plovers such as zlata prosenka and črna prosenka.
Besides the waders the area is good for ducks and other seabirds, terns (kaspijska čigra) and gulls. The meadows and fields inside of the area are also interesting for resting and migrating passerines. The site has over the years delivered quite some rarities such as jezerski martinec, dular, črna komatna tekica, črnočeli srakoper and prekomorski prodnik.
