The Norsholm area is quite vast and contains many minor sites shortly described here. The areas mentioned are marked with a star on the map. Press on a star and you can see the name of the area.
Grensholmsbron: Winter site with open waters even during harsh winters. Thousands of čopasta črnica (at most 2000), hundreds of mali žagar (only numerous during november and december), zvonec (at most 700), mlakarica (at most 600), and veliki žagar (at most 600). Among more rarer wintering birds it is most known for wintering planinski orel, and vodomec. Other not yearly winter visitors are beloperuti krivokljun, smrekov kalin during invasions, and mali ponirek, konopnica, severni repnik, dolgorepa raca, srednji žagar, and polarni brezovček during birdrich winters.
Norsholms coastal meadows: Reed free coastal meadows which are rich in waders during late spring and autumn. Although only if the water level is right (only during high water). Braskens grav: is an oxbow lake of the river Motala ström which often floods making it perfect for waders and ducks. kreheljc is numerous, črni martinec, and other common tringa-waders are often found along with puklež. velika bela čaplja is often found here. zelenonoga tukalica, and liska breed.
Åby gård: complex of 3 ponds, the large, the small and fiskaretorpet. It is these ponds and the field around them which Norsholm is most known for. It has a bird observation tower. During spring it holds large amounts of ducks and swans with labod grbec, labod pevec, mlakarica, žvižgavka, konopnica, kreheljc, žličarica, čopasta črnica, mali žagar, and veliki žagar being common and reglja and dolgorepa raca, being rarer. Other common wetland birds are liska, žerjav, siva čaplja. veliki kormoran often roost here. Rarer birds roosting are mali ponirek, zelenonoga tukalica, bobnarica (nearby reed areas), and velika bela čaplja. There are small islands in the pond which hold a small tern and gull colony. Theese islands also hold small amounts of waders often; veliki škurh, rdečenogi martinec, priba, togotnik and močvirski martinec. During early spring the area is great for roosting geese and swans with hundreds of beločela gos, siva gos, njivska gos, kanadska gos, and belolična gos during good years. often along with smaller amounts of mali labod (rare), Njivska gos (serrirostris), kratkokljuna gos, and grivasta gos (rare).
Around these ponds mala uharica, mali ponirek, zelenonoga tukalica, labod pevec, čopasti ponirek, kanadska gos, siva gos, kreheljc, žerjav, priba, kozica, liska, rečni galeb, veliki galeb, labod grbec, navadna čigra, fazan, čopasta črnica, mlakarica, zvonec, and southern rumena pastirica breed along with more common birds.
During autumn large amounts of ducks can rest (but less than during spring). The small islands grow during dry summers and can some years hold arctic waders like spremenljivi prodnik, srpokljuni prodnik, and Temminckov prodnik. modra taščica, and laponski ostroglež can sometimes be found on the surrounding fields.
