The Sierra de Segura is the largest protected area in Spain, a mid-mountain area that is the cradle of the largest rivers in the southern peninsula and one of the most important forested areas on the peninsula. Sierra de Segura mountain range is located between the Sierra Nevada, the Sierra de Cazorla and Sierra de Baza mountain ranges. Its highest point is the 1,993 m high Las Banderillas peak. The park is densely packed with tall pine trees and has canyons, waterfalls, lakes and rivers. The park is home to numerous bird species, and many birds can be seen, including ribji orel, mali orel, planinski orel, kragulji orel, beloglavi jastreb ,egiptovski jastreb, brkati ser, velika uharica, mala uharica, lesna sova, poljski škrjanec, hribski škrjanec, veliki skovik, menišček, zlatovranka, podhujka, planinska vrana, prepelica, španski škrjanec and šmarnica.
