Description

In Spring, from mid March to mid May, when the winds are right, there's a very good chance of seeing multiple species of migrating raptors here. Some of the more regular species are: kačar, egiptovski jastreb, mali orel, črni škarnik and Sršenar (May). Everything here usually depends on the direction and strength of the wind. During Spring this spot is at it's best during Southerlies or when there's no wind, but can yield results at other times as well.

During Westerlies, the birds will usually reach the Spanish mainland further East at Punta Carnero.

You can also take several walks from here that can be good for recently arrived, or breeding passerines. There's the chance of warblers like and taščična penica amongst others. Lesser kestrel are also often seen here.

Further to the East, the lower track (2) is often good for Black-eared Wheatear and passing seabirds such as terns.

Access

You can drive down a single track road from a turn off on the N-340. Coming from Tarifa. it's the second right. The road winds up and down for a couple of kilometres before reaching Punta Carnero. Once there, you can find a flattened area and a small car park.

You can also walk into this area from Tarifa. There's a track, that starts near to Tarifa Castle, which loosely follows the shore, curving inland at first, and then opening up and leading back beside the coast.

From there, you can also explore the track up the hillside towards and beyond the coastguard for passerines.
