A little known but nice park. Specially great for photographing, as birds are very approachable, including very close, even if occasional beloglavka.
Parque de los Lagos consists of 2 lakes and a channel that connects them. The surrounding vegetation consists of small fields and some sparse exotic bushes and trees. The closeby beach can be good for seawatching (Terns, velika govnačka, strmoglavec) and it holds the common beach birds. There aren't many people, even in August. The top lake holds a small island, which has siva čaplja and mala bela caplja, vodomec and some of the usual waders. Both lakes have lots of liska, mali ponirek and zelenonoga tukalica, as well as hundreds of mlakarica (both wild and domestic). Also domestic siva gos and domestic Muscovy Ducks. Small numbers of žličarica, konopnica and sivka are present during winter. Also during winter, some rarer species might show up, like beloglavka (mainly during dry years when wetlands are dry, up to 5), dolgorepa raca, čopasta črnica, kostanjevka or tatarska žvižgavka. However, they aren't regular. Duck hybrids aren't uncommon. The freshwater attracts loads of gulls (most notably sredozemski galeb), and may have some uncommon visitors on winter ( sivi galeb, veliki galeb). The channel might ocasionally have grebenasta liska, but again this is mainly during dry years and still uncommon. Look for vagrants (Notable records are 1 ameriška rjavka in 2021 and 1 deviški žerjav in 2015.) Passerine variety is low, but the place has a few wintering kmečka lastovka. Some other birds might show up from the nearby agricultural fields, like španska kotorna or mali orel.
You can access the park from anywhere inside Costa Ballena. To get to the urbanisation, simply follow Chipiona signs, incorporate into the A-491 and enter the urbanisation from there. Once you arrived, park on one of the many streets, and enter the park from there. Wheelchair users can follow the main path, as it is easy to travel.
The urbanisation and park might be crowded during summer, but they're almost empty in winter. Though spring and auttumn may give you some cool species, but those seasons are better spent elsewhere.
