The Rooisand Nature Reserve with its birdhide offers the best views on the Bot River Estuary.
The Bot River Estuary is an Important Bird Area and therefore rich in waders (Three-banded Plover, Little Stint, Whimbrel, Curlew Sandpiper), waterfowl (Cape Teal, Glossy Ibis, Sacred Ibis) and also coastal shrub inhabiting species.
Driving the R44 eastwards from Kleinmond after ca. 400 m there is a sign showing the way on a dirt road leading the small forest on the left side and open shrub land on the right side. Follow the dirt road for ca. 3 km when you will reach a parking spot and the beginning of a boardwalk that will lead you to the bird hide.
