A short walk through a forested area, with a gentle climb that begins in the town of Dindefelo and will take you to the foot of a waterfall.

Description

Dindefelo Falls Trail is an ascending path that takes you from the town of Dindefelo to the foot of the waterfall. It runs the entire way (about 2.5 km) between trees and parallel to a stream. A short distance from the town, you can a stop at the washhouse where you can see many species that come to drink, such as Western Plantain-eater, Senegal Coucal, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, Red-winged Prinia, Common Bulbul, Green-headed Sunbird, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Beautiful Sunbird, Bronze Mannikin, Lavender Waxbill, Black-bellied Firefinch as well as many other birds.

If you continue ascending you will reach the area where the women of the town wash clothes accompanied by children. In the surrounding area you can find Narina Trogon, African Goshawk, Familiar Chat, African Yellow White-eye, Snowy-crowned Robin-Chat, Gray Tit-Flycatcher, Yellow-breasted Apalis, Green-backed Camaroptera and African Blue Flycatcher.

If you continue the path you can see among other species Yellow-crowned Gonolek, Sulphur-breasted Bushshrike, Gray-headed Bushshrike, African Paradise-Flycatcher, Red-necked Falcon, Red-shouldered Cuckooshrike, Brown-throated Wattle-eye, Senegal Batis, Northern Puffback, Willcocks's Honeyguide and several species of Turacos.

Once you reach the foot of the waterfall you can take the opportunity to cool off in its waters while you observe African Palm-Swift, Fox Kestrel and other small passerines. The return is via the same path so you will have a second opportunity to discover and enjoy new species such as Brown Babbler, Starlings, Pigeons, etc.

Note: As it is a protected area, it is subject to visiting hours and it is mandatory to go up with a local guide who is hired in the same town.

Access

To get there you have to deviate from the main road in Segou and take a dirt road to the town of Dindefelo where you have to leave the vehicle. Note that it is mandatory to hire a local guide to visit the area.
