In the middle of Thames, a colony of shags lives where the Kauaeranga river flows into the Firth of Thames .
When driving through Thames, the Shortland Wharf is a nice little spot to observe roosting and breeding Pied Cormorant and Little Pied Cormorant just acrosse the river. Often also Royal Spoonbill are roosting with them. If you take a look out to the sea at the end of the pier with a scope, you may also be able to spot other shags on logs.
Driving along the 25 through Thames from the South, the Shortland Wharf is on your left of the first right turn. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates.
