Description
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (belohrbti detel, triprsti detel, črna žolna and srednji detel). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare zelena listnica, mali muhar and locally common gozdni jereb. kozača has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — mali skovik — is also seen more often. Many kosec and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (rečni cvrčalec, robidna trstnica), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
