Description

Band Alikhan Marsh is a seasonal wetland located south of Varamin, serving as a lush, green oasis where the Jajrud River meets the arid Kavir Desert. The landscape is a vibrant mix of dense reed beds, salt marshes, and shallow open waters that provide a critical sanctuary amidst the dry plains. This unique transition from desert to water creates a "green eye" in the landscape, acting as a natural barrier against desertification and providing a serene escape into the wild just a short distance from Tehran.

The site is a paradise for birdwatchers, especially during the spring and autumn migration. This place is best known for two specific species: dolgorepa grlica and Hypocolius. When the marsh has enough water, many waders spend some time there.
