Description
The raptor watchpoint near Kalloni provides a great view over the valley southwards that mainly raptors and storks tend to follow northwards during their spring migration. You need to have a bit of luck, but if you're there during a peak migration event, hundreds and hundreds of raptors and storks can be observed. Common species that can be seen are harriers, like močvirski lunj and even stepski lunj, storks, like črna štorklja and bela štorklja, rjasta kanja, Steppe Buzzard, kačar, Sršenar, kratkonogi skobec, kragulj, škrjančar, rdečenoga postovka, sredozemski sokol, južna postovka and sokol selec. Scarcer species can sometimes be seen within flocks of other raptors, like mali klinkač, kragulji orel, mali orel and kraljevi orel.
The area surrounding the viewpoint is also good for typical inland species, like puščavec, sredozemski kupčar and balkanski strnad.
