Mt Hymettus is a great birding place, very close to the city center of Athens with several species to enjoy such as črnogrla penica, sredozemski kupčar, turška kotorna, rjasta kanja and mali muhar . Different habitats (scattered forest, olive groves, makia vegetation, rocky slopes) provide excellent habitat for a variety of birds, basically passerines.

Walk around Kesariani Monastery to see mali muhar in fall, also breeding lesna sova, plotni strnad, žametna penica, rdečeglavi kraljiček, dolgorepka and veliki skovik. Drive up the summit in spring and explore the surrounding paths for črnogrla penica, taščična penica, sredozemski kupčar, puščavec, skalni brglez and rjasta kanja.
