Description
Alexandros Salt Pans are clearly no longer used for salt production. There are several small lagoons by the beach at the south side and the tarmac road follows the beach. A good dirt track continues along the embankment all the way, finishing as a dead end after 2.4 kilometres.
I visited the site in September during high tide (a dozen of both črnoglavi galeb and kričava cigra, rumenonogi galeb, kaspijska čigra, pritlikavi kormoran and veliki kormoran, mala bela caplja, brškinka), was somewhat surprised by the low number of birds, so I returned during low tide, only to find even fewer birds and not a single shorebird.
Local eBird hotspot also mention svilnica, rdeca lastovka, kodrasti pelikan, plamenec, mala čigra, bledi hudournik, beloceli deževnik, mali škurh, rdečenogi martinec, and zelenonogi martinec.
