Rickelsbüller Koog is a dyked wetland and nature reserve close to the Danish border. It has meadows and open water surfaces with islets.
The developement of Rickelsbüller Koog Nature Reserve started in 1981 when the former salt marshes were artificially disconnected from the North Sea. The current wetland meadows with low vegetation are breeding sites for rdečenogi martinec , črnorepi kljunač , togotnik , srebrni galeb , belolična gos and sabljarka.
From autumn to early spring, the dyked area and the adjacent salt marshes on the dyke's sea-ward side are resting sites of belolična gos , grivasta gos , veliki prodnik , spremenljivi prodnik veliki škurh and žvižgavka . Observation possibilities depend on the tides of the North Sea.
By car or bicycle: Starting from Rodenaes, follow street K98 to the border. Directly in front of the frontier station turn left and follow the dead end road where you will find a parking place.
