Description
Rappenwört is often referred to as an island, as it is almost completey surrounded by water: a meander cutoff where the Rhine used to flow and the current, straightened course of the river. In addition to interesting birding habitats, there is also an outdoor swimming pool, a nature information centre and various canoeing clubs and restaurants. On the various lakes, ponds and backwaters you can see labod grbec, mlakarica, kreheljc, liska, čopasti ponirek, siva čaplja, velika bela čaplja and veliki kormoran.
The woodlands are also rich in birdlife, especially in spring and summer. A few of the highlight species include kobilar, sivi muhar, pivka and srednji detel. Access
The Rappenwört area is easy to access (except at times of extremely high river levels). There are various large car parks and parking bays and there is also a tram stop next to the swimming pool. The area is best explored on foot or by bike. Click on a P in the map for directions to a parking. The circular route indicated on the map is about 5 km.
