Description
As part of the overall lake and gravel pit complex of Kiesgrube Burgliebenau, Wallendorfer lake and Raßnitzer lake, this spot offers one particular advantage: on days with strong winds, a lot of water birds withdraw to this arm of Raßnitzer lake, which functions as an outlet (Auslauf) into Wallendorfer lake. Particularly during winter, this allows you to observe wintering species such as mali žagar or zlatouhi ponirek in larger numbers up close. Additionally, during breeding season, you have very high chances of at least hearing a bobnarica as well as a variety of reed-based birds such as rakar.

Access
This part of the Raßnitzer See is located just north of the village of Wegwitz. It is highly recommended to explore this site as well as the overall area by bike coming from Merseburg or Schkeuditz as there are a lot of interesting places (also available on Birdingplaces). If coming by car, you have access to this place coming through Wegwitz and a few parking opportunities next to a small gravel road (marked with a "P" on the map). After that, you can explore the area by foot.

As mentioned in the introductory text, this spot shines particularly during windy days, but is always worth a visit/stop when you're exploring the whole area, which overall is a hotspot for a lot of migrating birds (especially Kiesgrube Burgliebenau).
