The salt marshes east of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez attract a range of birds.
Marais Salants de La Vie in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez are salt marshes, which have been man-made since the 7th century. Among the birds you can observe are sabljarka, duplinska kozarka, veliki kormoran, kratkoperuti vrtnik, rdečenogi martinec, mali martinec, polojnik, mala bela caplja, velika bela čaplja, siva čaplja, zelenonoga tukalica, navadna postovka, navadna čigra, triprsti galeb, rečni galeb and srebrni galeb.

Français: Les marais salants, façonnés par l’homme dès le VIIème siècle, témoignent de l’intense activité qui régnait il y a peu encore autour de la récolte de « l’or blanc ». La réhabilitation d’anciens marais salants dans la basse vallée de la Vie, fait revivre l’exploitation du sel depuis les années 1990. Site agréable, facile d'accès.
Marais Salants de La Vie is located in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez. Follow the D 388. Small car park near the salt marsh (signposted). Press P on the map for directions. Walk, possibly by bike but you won't see many birds... For a complete visit, without rushing to see the birds, allow about 5 hours. Of course, it is possible to visit only part of the site. Easy to find. Impossible to get lost.

Français: Suivre la D 388 . Petit parking à proximité du marais salant de la Vie (fléché). Se promener à pied, eventuellement à vélo mais on ne verra alors pas grand chose ... Pour une visite complète, sans se presser pour voir les oiseaux, compter environ 5 h. Possible bien sûr de ne visiter qu'une partie du site. Repérage facile. Impossible de se perdre.
