Description

The coastal area directly east of Stes Maries de la Mer area has shallow lagunes, small lakes, a beach and the Bassins de Décantation (1), former seawater settling basins. It is an open landscape with very few bushes. The Bassins de Décantation are recognized nationally and internationally for the wealth of migratory birds. Particularly for the rare birds which it welcomes every year. You can see rare passerines (such as rdečegrla cipa or mušja listnica), waders (such as mali rumenonogi martinec, ploskokljunec, prekomorski prodnik, belotrtični prodnik, sabljasti martinec or jezerski martinec) or raptors (sredozemski sokol, rdečenoga postovka and stepski lunj). More regular birds you can observe include plamenec, sabljarka, komatni deževnik, kamenjar, zalivski galeb, črnovrati ponirek, čopasti škrjanec and many other species of waders.
