Description
Luitemaa Nature Reserve is a wetland complex on the south-western coast of Estonia that consists of diverse coastal and inland habitats including shallow sea, capes and islands, coastal meadows and reed-beds. The coastal meadows near Võiste have shallow waters that attract large amounts of dabbling ducks (konopnica, mlakarica, reglja, žvižgavka, kreheljc and so on), duplinska kozarka and swans. The wide coastal meadows and lagoons are favored by geese. Most common are siva gos and belolična gos. Rarer gooses like beločela gos, kratkokljuna gos, kanadska gos, rdečevrata gos, grivasta gos, Njivska gos (serrirostris) and njivska gos are often found during migration.
The sandbanks and lagoons are great spots for wading birds. Most common breeding birds are rdečenogi martinec, komatni deževnik, školjkarica, zlata prosenka, priba, and togotnik. During migration črni martinec, sabljarka, spremenljivi prodnik, mali prodnik, Temminckov prodnik, veliki prodnik, srpokljuni prodnik, veliki škurh and mali škurh have been recorded.
