Description
The Slatina area is an important breeding site for many birds connected to reedbeds such as čapljica (the only location of this species in Prague), trstni cvrčalec, Mokož, rakar, srpična trstnica, zelenonoga tukalica or trstni strnad. Also the rjavi lunj is breeding here. On the pond itself breeds many pairs of čopasti ponirek, liska, mlakarica and a few pairs of sivka and čopasta črnica. In the linked rural areas breed rjavi srakoper, kobiličar, slavec and many others. Nearby there is a breeding site of breguljka.
During the spring migration you can see birds such as modra taščica, repaljščica, prosnik, črnoglavi muhar, reglja and many other species of waterfowl, kozica, priba and many, many more species.
Many birds come to spend a night in the reedbed, especially in the end of summer. It is the best place in the area where to watch škorec murmuration. Also kmečka lastovka and rumena pastirica come here to spend a night.
During the weekend the location can be overcrowded by people such as fishermen or bikers so I recommend you to visit the location during weekdays. Please do not disturb birds in their breeding habitats and use just visible pathways!
