Headland in the southeastern part of the island of Cyprus. The whole area is a magnet for migrating birds and lots of rarities are found here.
Cape Greco has been designated an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International because it is a key migration site for large numbers of raptors and other birds. It forms a migratory bottleneck for rdečenoga postovka, stepski lunj, Sršenar and navadna postovka, as well as supporting breeding populations of ciprski kupčar, ciprska penica and frankolin. Cape Greco is a nature reserve and a headland by the sea. It is stunning at first light. It has plenty of different habitats .There is a chance of seeing any of the migrating species here. For example vijeglavka, vrtni strnad, balkanski strnad, zakrinkani srakoper, rjavoglavi srakoper and smrdokavra.
Cape Greco is at the southern end of Famagusta Bay. It lies between the towns of Ayia Napa and Protaras. There are several parking areas. Click on the P in the map to get directions. It is a beautiful natural area with caves, natural arch bridges, cliffs, beaches, hiking trails and a crystal clear sea. At the end of the cape there is a lighthouse but it is usually inaccessible because the road is closed.
In the nature reserve there are well-marked hiking trails such as the Aphrodite hiking trail and part of the long-distance hiking trail E4 runs along the coast of Cape Greco. There are regular benches along the walking paths to enjoy the view and at one of these points is a remarkable statue of a heron.
