Description

The Rupelmondse Kreek was created after a dike breached in 1715. The polders flooded and the breach in the dike was only closed after three years. Today the pond is almost 10 hectares in size. Birds you can see in the area include žličarka, Sršenar, belorepec, ribji orel, rjavi lunj and prosnik.

Nederlands: Een waterplas die een nog levende getuige vormt van het verwoestende overstromingsgeweld uit het verleden. De Rupelmondse Kreek kwam tot stand na een dijkdoorbraak in 1715. De polders stroomden onder water en de bres in de dijk werd pas na drie jaar gedicht. Vandaag is de waterplas bijna 10 ha groot. Vogels die je in het gebied kunt zien zijn onder meer žličarka, Sršenar, belorepec, ribji orel, rjavi lunj en prosnik.

Access

From Rupelmonde you can make a nice circular walk of 8 km along the Rupelmondse Kreek and back via the river Scheldt. But a shorter walk along along the creek is also possible. You can park at Geraard de Cremerstraat 18b 9150 Rupelmonde. Another option is via Hemiksem ferry. You can park on the right bank of the Scheldt in Hemiksem and cross with the ferry.

Nederlands: Vanuit Rupelmonde kun je een mooie rondwandeling van 8 km maken langs de Rupelmondse Kreek en via de Schelde weer terug. Maar een kortere wandeling alleen langs de kreek is ook mogelijk. Parkeren kan op Geeraard de Cremerstraat 18b 9150 Rupelmonde. Andere optie is via Hemiksem veerpont. Parkeren mogelijk op de rechteroever van de Schelde in Hemiksem en oversteken met het veer.
