Description

Berrinba Wetlands is an 80 hectare ex-sand mining facility re-vegetated with over 430,000 native plants. From a barren wasteland to a thriving habitat in less than twenty years, Berrinba now boasts 162 recorded bird species. The area has 8 km of marked paths, a large viewing deck, several viewpoints and bridges to look out over the lake areas. Habitat consists of grassland, open parkland and bush, and wetland.

Birds you can observe include several species of honeyeaters, herons, cormorants and ducks and also Magpie Goose, Australian Brushturkey, Comb-crested Jacana, Australasian Swamphen, Royal Spoonbill, Pale-headed Rosella, Rufous Whistler, Channel-billed Cuckoo, Olive-backed Oriole, Rufous Fantail, Spangled Drongo, Fan-tailed Cuckoo, Osprey and Leaden Flycatcher.

Access

Berrinba Wetlands is situated in Logan City, about 30 km south of Brisbane CBD. From Brisbane take the M3 south, merge onto the Logan Motorway (M6), and exit at Browns Plains Road. Follow signs to Wayne Goss Drive — the main entrance and car park are clearly marked. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. Closest bus stop is on Browns Plains Road, about a 10–15 minute walk to the wetlands entrance.

Facilities at Berrinba Wetlands include a large educational shelter and modern toilet with handicapped access. The Greater Wetland Walk that is shown on the map is a 2.8 km circuit with multiple bridges and vantage points over lagoons.
