Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust Reserve on reforested former colliery site.
Wigpool Common has varied fauna and flora. Gorse, bracken, willow scrub and pinewoods surround the main pool. There are bog asphodel, marsh speedwell and marsh pennywort. Palmate and smooth newts, emperor dragonflies, 4-spotted chasers, hawkers and darters all breed in the pool. Roe and muntjac deer are possibilities. The wooded scrubby area southward towards Puddlebrook is best for birds including stehlík hnedkavý, strnádka obyčajná, žltochvost hôrny, stehlík konôpka, kačička mandarínska, sluka hôrna, brhlík obyčajný, pŕhľaviar červenkastý, pŕhľaviar čiernohlavý and muchár sivý.
Parking on track adjoining the pool. From A4136 traffic lights head north past Hales DIY then right to pass through Drybrook. One mile thereafter, go right at the crossroads.
Footpath and forest ride going east from Blackwell meadows to the waterworks appear on OS map but missing from this website.
